Exhibition:

PAST FORWARD is an exciting exhibition that invites creatives to reflect on past work and revive these with their current creative skills. This unique showcase bridges the past and present, offering a glimpse into the artistic growth of Open Window staff members. A dual display will be showcased: the original artworks from each artist's early career, along with their contemporary reinterpretations. These new artworks can explore different mediums and take a different form entirely.

Rationale:

In my initial work, First Light, I explored themes of solitude and simplicity, using vibrant colors to evoke a sense of life and energy at dawn. The warm red and orange hues, with sharp contrasts against the dark background, conveys an optimistic outlook, a symbol of beginnings. The minimalist shapes, clean lines, and structured composition revealed my early focus on creating bold visuals through minimalistic landscapes, where each element was deliberate and starkly defined.

The new work, Twilight Reverie, represents a contemporary reinterpretation of the same theme but approached with more nuance, depth, and subtlety. While the fundamental composition remains mostly the same, the mood has shifted. The warm, intense palette of First Light is replaced with a cooler, more introspective color scheme of purples and blues, reflecting a different emotional state. Twilight, unlike dawn, embodies transition, introspection, and mystery.

This transformation in tone reinforces my current creative focus—moving from bold, direct expression to a more layered, atmospheric narrative. The shift from day to night between the two pieces symbolizes both a literal and metaphorical journey through time, as I delve into more mature, reflective interpretations of familiar motifs. The presence of more nuanced lighting effects and the broader range of color tones, gradients and grain in Twilight Reverie emphasises a more complex landscape while maintaining my minimalist roots.
